Delhi Excise Policy Case: Kejriwal Relief Challenged as High Court Assigns Matter to New Judge

Delhi High Court Reassigns Key Excise Policy Case

The legal proceedings linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy irregularities involving Arvind Kejriwal have taken a fresh turn after the Delhi High Court reassigned the matter to Justice Manoj Jain.

The case is scheduled to come up for hearing on Tuesday following a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation challenging the discharge granted to Kejriwal and several other accused persons by a trial court.

Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma Steps Away From Hearing

The matter was previously listed before Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma. However, she recused herself from hearing the case after initiating criminal contempt proceedings in a separate development involving Kejriwal and others.

Following her withdrawal from the proceedings, the case file was reassigned administratively and placed before Justice Manoj Jain for further hearing and consideration.

CBI Moves High Court Against Trial Court Order

The CBI has questioned the legality of the trial court’s decision that discharged Kejriwal and other accused in the excise policy case. According to the investigating agency, the relief granted by the lower court was not legally sustainable and required judicial review by the High Court.

The probe agency has sought cancellation of the discharge order and requested the High Court to restore proceedings against the accused persons connected to the case.

Excise Policy Case Continues To Draw Political Attention

The Delhi excise policy matter has remained one of the most closely watched political and legal controversies in recent years, drawing attention at both judicial and political levels.

The latest hearing is expected to be significant as the High Court examines the CBI’s objections to the trial court ruling and decides the future course of proceedings in the case.
