Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to begin his second consecutive term as Assam Chief Minister on Monday, marking another major milestone for the BJP-led NDA alliance in the northeastern state.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Khanapara Veterinary College Field in Guwahati, where several senior national leaders and chief ministers from across the country are expected to attend the event.
Along with Sarma, four ministers from alliance parties are also likely to take oath as members of the new cabinet. The NDA government’s return to power marks its third straight term in Assam, strengthening the BJP’s political hold in the region.
According to political sources, Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog from the BJP are expected to be part of the new cabinet. Atul Bora from the Asom Gana Parishad and Charan Boro from the Bodoland People’s Front are also expected to take oath as ministers.
Atul Bora, who heads the AGP, remains one of the key allies of the NDA in Assam politics and is likely to continue playing an important role in the coalition government.
Ajanta Neog, who handled the Finance portfolio in the previous government, created history as Assam’s first woman Finance Minister. She has represented the Golaghat Assembly constituency continuously since 2001 and remains one of the BJP’s prominent women leaders in the state.
Rameswar Teli, known for his roots in Assam’s tea garden community, previously served as a Rajya Sabha member and represented the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency for two consecutive terms between 2014 and 2024.
Charan Boro, representing the Bodoland People’s Front, earlier served as Transport Minister and is expected to continue representing the alliance partner in the new government setup.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Ranjeet Kumar Dass is expected to take oath as Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. Dass, a former journalist, has previously served as a cabinet minister handling Panchayat and Rural Development, Food and Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs departments. He had also served as Assembly Speaker earlier and led the Assam BJP unit between 2016 and 2021.
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to witness the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and BJP national president Nitin Nabin, along with several NDA chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from across the country.
