Senior leaders from Maharashtra visiting Assam for the formation of the new NDA government offered prayers at the famous Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Sunetra Pawar and Praful Patel visited the temple on Tuesday and offered prayers before attending the oath-taking event scheduled later in the day.
NDA Leaders Gather in Guwahati for Major Political Event
The Assam capital has witnessed the arrival of several prominent NDA leaders from across the country for the swearing-in ceremony, which marks the beginning of the BJP-led alliance’s third consecutive government in the northeastern state.
A day earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had also visited the Kamakhya Temple and sought blessings of Maa Kamakhya before the ceremony.
Political leaders and party workers gathered in large numbers in Guwahati as preparations continued for the high-profile event at the Khanapara Veterinary College Field.
Himanta Biswa Sarma Set for Second Consecutive Term
Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to take oath as Assam Chief Minister for a second consecutive term following the NDA alliance’s victory in the state. Along with Sarma, four ministers are also expected to be sworn in as part of the new cabinet.
The ceremony is being seen as a major political showcase for the NDA, with participation from top national leaders and chief ministers from multiple states.
Top NDA Leadership to Attend Ceremony
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and BJP national president Nitin Nabin are among the senior leaders expected to attend the ceremony.
More than 40 NDA chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from different states are also likely to be present at the event, underlining the political significance of the swearing-in ceremony in Assam.
