Bihar Cabinet Expansion Set for May 7 at Gandhi Maidan, Big Political Show Expected

Grand Swearing-In Planned in Patna

The much-anticipated cabinet expansion of the Bihar government led by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary is scheduled to take place on May 7 at the historic Gandhi Maidan. Preparations are underway for a large-scale ceremony that is expected to draw significant political attention.

Top National Leaders Likely to Attend

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to be present at the event, underlining the importance of the cabinet formation for the ruling alliance at both state and national levels.

BJP-JD(U) Power Sharing Formula Finalised

Sources indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal (United) are likely to get equal representation in the new cabinet, with around 16 मंत्री positions each. The expansion aims to balance political equations while strengthening governance in the state.

Extensive Consultations Before Final Decision

In the run-up to the expansion, Samrat Chaudhary held multiple rounds of discussions with senior leaders in Delhi and Patna. He met key figures including Chirag Paswan, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Nityanand Rai to finalise the list of ministers and alliance representation. Consultations were also held with Upendra Kushwaha and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Allies to Get Representation in Cabinet

Apart from BJP and JD(U), alliance partners are also expected to be accommodated. The Lok Janshakti Party faction led by Chirag Paswan may get two मंत्री positions, while Hindustani Awam Morcha and Rashtriya Lok Morcha are likely to receive one berth each.

Focus on Social Balance and New Faces

The cabinet expansion is expected to reflect a mix of experience and fresh leadership. Alongside senior leaders such as Vijay Kumar Sinha, new and younger faces, including women leaders, are likely to be inducted. Social representation and caste balance are said to be key factors in the final selection.

Cabinet Expansion Comes After Leadership Change

Samrat Chaudhary took oath as Chief Minister in April 2026 following the resignation of Nitish Kumar, who moved to the Rajya Sabha. At present, the government has only a limited number of ministers, making this expansion crucial for administrative functioning. The Bihar cabinet can have a maximum of 36 members.

Deputy Chief Ministers Continue in Key Roles

The current Deputy Chief Ministers from JD(U), Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, are expected to retain important roles in the new setup, given their experience and proximity to the party leadership.
