Massive Political Row Erupts Over Election Results
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of India after the declaration of results in the Assam and West Bengal Assembly elections. The BJP registered a sweeping victory in both states, crossing comfortable majority marks and strengthening its political dominance.
“More Than 100 Seats Were Stolen”: Rahul Gandhi’s Serious Allegation
Rahul Gandhi alleged large-scale manipulation in the electoral process, directly targeting the BJP and the Election Commission. In his statement, he said: “More than 100 seats were stolen in West Bengal,” echoing concerns also raised by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He further claimed that similar patterns were seen in previous elections across Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, and even the Lok Sabha elections of 2024, suggesting what he described as a repeated “playbook” of electoral misuse.
BJP Dominates Assam and West Bengal Results
Despite the allegations, the official results showed a strong mandate for the BJP. In West Bengal, the party secured over 200 seats, establishing a clear majority. In Assam, it won 82 seats, comfortably crossing the required threshold to form government. The Congress, meanwhile, managed only 19 seats in Assam, marking a significant setback for the party in the region.
TMC Performance and Key Defeat in West Bengal
The Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Mamata Banerjee, secured 71 seats and was leading in additional constituencies during counting. However, one of the biggest shocks came when Mamata Banerjee lost the Bhabanipur Assembly seat to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari by over 15,000 votes. Adhikari secured 73,463 votes while Banerjee received 58,349 votes, marking a symbolic political setback for the TMC leadership.

The results and subsequent allegations have intensified political tensions nationwide. While the BJP celebrates a sweeping mandate in two key states, the opposition has raised serious questions over electoral fairness. With both sides firmly entrenched in their positions, the controversy is expected to dominate national political discourse in the coming days.
