Industrialist Vijaypat Singhania played a crucial role in transforming the Raymond Group into one of India’s most diversified business houses, expanding far beyond its traditional textile roots.
Expansion Beyond Textiles
Under Singhania’s leadership, the Raymond Group moved into multiple sectors including synthetic fabrics, denim, steel, industrial files, and cement. This strategic expansion helped the company evolve from a textile brand into a broad-based industrial conglomerate.
Role in Education Sector
In addition to his business achievements, Singhania also contributed to the field of education. In 2007, he was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, one of India’s top management institutes. He held this position until 2012, playing a role in shaping academic leadership.
Passing the Baton to Next Generation
In 2000, Singhania handed over the leadership of the Raymond Group to his son Gautam Singhania, marking a transition to the next generation. Despite stepping down from day-to-day operations, he remained active in public and business life for several years.
Low Public Profile in Later Years
In recent times, Singhania had largely stayed away from public appearances, maintaining a low profile compared to his earlier active years.
