A major political controversy has erupted after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey made sensational claims about freedom fighter and former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, sparking sharp reactions from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
What Nishikant Dubey Claimed
Dubey alleged that Biju Patnaik acted as a link between the United States, the CIA, and India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
He further claimed that during the 1962 India-China war, India depended on American assistance and that Patnaik was involved in sensitive defence-related missions. Dubey said he had released letters allegedly written by Nehru to support his claims.
The BJP MP also referred to Cold War-era incidents, including allegations about a nuclear device placed at Nanda Devi and the use of Odisha’s Charbatia airbase by US spy planes.
BJD Hits Back Strongly
The remarks triggered immediate backlash from the BJD. Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra strongly criticised Dubey, accusing him of misrepresenting history and disrespecting a widely admired leader.
Patra described Biju Patnaik as a national hero whose contributions to India’s freedom struggle and international missions are well recognised.
Resignation Escalates the Row
In a dramatic move, Sasmit Patra announced his resignation from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and IT, which is chaired by Dubey.
He said he could not continue in a committee led by someone who had made such remarks about a respected figure.
