Cricket fever is gripping the country as India prepares to face New Zealand in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on March 8.
To help thousands of fans reach the venue, Northern Railways has announced a special train from Delhi to Sabarmati for spectators planning to attend the match at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.
The match is expected to draw huge crowds as India attempts to lift the T20 World Cup trophy in front of home fans.
Special Train From Delhi to Sabarmati
Railway authorities said the special train will depart from New Delhi Railway Station at 11:45 PM on March 7.
The train will arrive at Sabarmati on March 8 at 2:30 PM, just hours before the high-voltage final.
The train, numbered 04062, will travel through several major stations including Delhi Cantonment, Gurugram and Jaipur.
Officials confirmed that the train will have 19 coaches, including Second AC and Third AC compartments to accommodate travelling fans.
The announcement came after many supporters struggled to arrange travel due to the late release of match tickets and soaring flight prices.
Teams Begin Final Preparations in Ahmedabad
The Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, arrived in Ahmedabad on March 6 and is scheduled to hold a training session from 6 PM to 9 PM on the eve of the final.
New Zealand’s squad will practice earlier in the day from 2 PM to 5 PM, with their pre-match press conference scheduled for 1:30 PM.
India’s media interaction will take place shortly before their training session begins.
India Aim to Break T20 World Cup Jinx Against New Zealand
The final carries additional significance for India as the team has never defeated New Zealand in T20 World Cup history.
The upcoming clash offers India a chance to finally break that record and rewrite history on home soil.
If India wins the title, the team would also become the first nation to win consecutive T20 World Cups and the first to lift the trophy at home.
Form Concerns in Indian Camp
While India enters the final with strong momentum after defeating England in the semi-final, the team still has a few concerns.
Young opener Abhishek Sharma has struggled against off-spin bowlers throughout the tournament, raising questions about his form heading into the final.
Meanwhile, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy remains India’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament but has seen his economy rate rise sharply since the Super Eights stage.
Despite these concerns, India will rely on home support and recent winning momentum as they prepare for what promises to be one of the most thrilling T20 World Cup finals in recent years.
