Mumbai: A Mumbai city civil court on Friday issued an interim order restraining filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap and several others from making or circulating any statements against Bollywood actor Salman Khan and his family on any platform. The court’s direction applies to social media, interviews, videos, podcasts, and all other forms of public communication.
The order came in response to a defamation suit filed by Salman Khan, who alleged that a series of public remarks made by Kashyap and others were defamatory, offensive, and damaging to his family’s reputation. While granting temporary relief to the actor, the court observed that the right to free speech does not permit the use of abusive language, threats, or unverified allegations against any individual.
According to the suit, Khan approached the court after multiple video interviews and online discussions carried comments that he described as scandalous and false. These videos were reportedly broadcast on a digital channel operated by one of the accused. The actor claimed that the content repeatedly targeted him and his family with serious accusations, including claims that they controlled the film industry to harm others’ careers.
The legal plea stated that at least 26 videos and podcast episodes, released between September and December 2025, contained objectionable remarks and offensive language. These clips are now at the centre of the dispute and are under judicial consideration.
Salman Khan has sought a permanent injunction to prevent further publication of such content and has also demanded ₹9 crore in damages for alleged harm to his reputation. The suit names multiple individuals as well as unidentified online entities and social media platforms for hosting or amplifying the disputed material.
