Lucknow: Congress President Ajay Rai on Monday accused the ruling BJP of pursuing policies that divide communities and consolidate political power. Speaking to the media, Rai alleged that the party has deepened societal rifts, both between religious communities and within the Hindu community itself.
Rai pointed to instances of alleged disrespect towards revered figures, saying, “Saints and revered personalities, including Shankaracharya, have been disrespected. Statues of historical icons like Ahilyabai Holkar have been vandalised or hidden. These acts reflect a deliberate strategy to polarise society.”
Addressing law and order concerns, he highlighted a recent incident in Kanpur, where two girls were reportedly raped, and claimed the responsible police officer remains absconding. “Such failures are part of a larger pattern intended to divide the nation,” Rai said.
He emphasised Congress’s commitment to safeguarding unity, stating, “Congress workers are vigilant and dedicated. We will ensure that divisive intentions do not succeed.”
