Mumbai: India marked its Republic Day celebrations with dignity and grandeur as President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the national tricolour at Kartavya Path in New Delhi on Monday. The ceremony began with the national anthem, followed by a powerful 21-gun salute fired from indigenous 105-mm Light Field Guns, symbolising India’s growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
The President was accompanied by this year’s distinguished chief guests — European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. They were formally escorted by the elite President’s Bodyguard, the oldest and most senior regiment of the Indian Army, lending a ceremonial touch to the historic occasion.
Following the flag-hoisting, the Republic Day Parade commenced, offering a vibrant display of India’s cultural diversity, technological progress, and military strength. Colourful tableaux from various states, marching contingents of the armed forces, and advanced defence equipment rolled down Kartavya Path, drawing applause from spectators.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at the saluting dais, witnessing the parade alongside senior leaders, diplomats, and defence officials. The event highlighted India’s democratic spirit, national unity, and commitment to constitutional values, setting a patriotic tone for the day-long celebrations across the country.
