Delhi: The 77th Republic Day celebrations began on a solemn and patriotic note in New Delhi as Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in honouring India’s fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial. The tribute marked the opening of the day’s events, reflecting remembrance, gratitude, and national unity.
Before heading to the main Republic Day ceremony, the Prime Minister laid a wreath at the memorial, standing in silent respect for those who gave their lives in defence of the country. The moment underscored the enduring role of the armed forces in safeguarding India’s sovereignty and democratic values.
Adding a powerful visual message to the ceremony was the Prime Minister’s choice of attire. He wore a deep red turban highlighted with golden motifs and fine multicoloured threads, a style often associated with courage, sacrifice, and leadership. The turban drew attention for its cultural symbolism, echoing India’s long martial and traditional heritage.
Complementing the headgear, PM Modi opted for a dark blue kurta with a matching Nehru jacket, paired with a white lower garment, striking a balance between elegance and restraint.
