Mumbai: BJP MLC Pravin Darekar on Tuesday sought to defuse speculation of cracks within the Mahayuti alliance, asserting that Union Minister Ramdas Athawale remains committed to the ruling coalition despite visible unease among party workers over seat-sharing for the upcoming civic elections.
Addressing media queries, Darekar said the pressure Athawale is facing is natural in an election season, especially when thousands of grassroots workers across parties aspire to contest polls. He underlined that such internal demands should not be mistaken for political dissatisfaction or a breakdown of alliance unity.
“Every political party has its own organisation and workers who want representation. With 227 seats up for grabs, it is obvious that expectations will rise,” Darekar remarked, adding that this was a common democratic process rather than a sign of discontent.
He emphasised that Athawale’s role in the Mahayuti and in the government would be handled with dignity and mutual respect. Darekar noted that discussions with the Chief Minister would ensure that Athawale’s contribution and standing within the alliance are appropriately acknowledged.
Darekar also stressed that the Mahayuti remains focused on coordination among partners and managing ambitions within the alliance structure. According to him, resolving such issues through dialogue reflects political maturity and strengthens the coalition ahead of crucial local body elections.
