Pune: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday evening announced that the controversial Mahar Watan land transaction in Pune’s Mundhwa area, which had drawn public criticism and political heat, has been officially cancelled. The deal involved Amadea Enterprises LLP, a firm in which Pawar’s son, Parth Pawar, was reportedly associated.

Addressing reporters, Ajit Pawar confirmed that the transaction was scrapped following mounting backlash and said a high-level inquiry committee has been formed to examine every aspect of the case. “As per the information I have, the transaction has been cancelled. A committee has been constituted to investigate the entire matter. Every phone call, every document, and every person involved will be scrutinised. I’ve always maintained that I will never tolerate any act that violates the rules,” Pawar said.

The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to accountability and transparency, clarifying that he had no prior knowledge of the land transaction. “If I had known about it earlier, I would have intervened immediately. I’ve been in politics for decades and have always ensured that every action is taken within the boundaries of law. Allegations have been made against me before, but none were proven. This is another attempt to malign my image,” Pawar remarked.

Pawar revealed that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has appointed an inquiry committee led by the Chief Secretary, which will submit its findings within a month. He added that he personally contacted the Chief Minister and urged him to take “strict action as per law” and ensure full transparency in the investigation.

The Deputy CM also clarified that no money had been exchanged in the Mundhwa land deal and that the cancellation effectively nullifies the transaction. “Whatever has happened must come before the people. The facts should be known, and that’s why I’ve requested a thorough probe. I will cooperate fully with the investigation,” Pawar said.

Although reporters pressed him for comments regarding Parth Pawar’s involvement in the deal, Ajit Pawar declined to elaborate further on that point.
