Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has made startling claims against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that he faced threats and inducements from political rivals in the past.

Shivakumar, a senior Congress leader, claimed that a former Delhi police official warned him with the words, “Are you a Deputy Chief Minister or are you going to jail?” The remarks, he said, were made in an attempt to pressure him into switching allegiance to the BJP.

According to Shivakumar, the BJP offered him the post of Deputy Chief Minister to lure him into joining the party. He rejected the offer, choosing instead to face incarceration — a reference to his 2019 arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a high-profile money laundering case.

“These are not mere allegations,” Shivakumar said, emphasizing that he has evidence to substantiate his claims. He has reiterated the statements on multiple occasions, underscoring the political pressure and intimidation tactics he claims to have faced.
