Mumbai: In a significant development, Mumbai Police have issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) against Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her businessman husband Raj Kundra in connection with a Rs 60 crore cheating case, officials confirmed on Friday. The LOC was issued by the city’s Economic Offences Wing, citing the couple’s frequent international travels as a reason for heightened vigilance.
The case, registered at Juhu police station on August 14, alleges that the couple defrauded Mumbai-based businessman Deepak Kothari in a loan-cum-investment arrangement. According to the complaint, funds intended for business expansion between 2015 and 2023 were allegedly diverted for personal use.
Shilpa Shetty, who initially provided a personal guarantee for the deal, later stepped down as director of the company. Following her exit, the firm reportedly faced an insolvency case amounting to Rs 1.28 crore. The Mumbai Police FIR cites violations under sections 403, 406, and 34 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
A Lookout Circular is an official measure that alerts immigration and border control authorities, preventing individuals from leaving India and enabling law enforcement to track their movements.
