Rahul Gandhi Vows to Speak Only in Lok Sabha Amid Parliament Chaos; Houses Adjourned Twice Over Bihar SIR Row

New Delhi: Amid high drama and repeated disruptions in Parliament, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Monday said that he would only deliver his statement inside the House and not outside it. His remark came as both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the second time today, owing to relentless sloganeering by Opposition members.

“If I speak, it will be inside (the House). I am aware of that (adjournment of Lok Sabha), that’s why I am standing here (outside),” Gandhi told reporters gathered outside the Parliament. When pressed further to make a comment on the day’s disruptions, he tersely responded, “My opportunity (to speak) is inside.”

The Parliament witnessed multiple adjournments on Monday as Opposition MPs continued to protest against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process being undertaken in poll-bound Bihar. The Opposition has raised concerns over alleged discrepancies and political misuse of the voter list revision exercise.

The Lok Sabha, which was originally scheduled to meet at 11 AM, was first adjourned and then briefly reconvened at 12 PM, before being disrupted again by Opposition protests. The House is now scheduled to reassemble at 1 PM. Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha met briefly at 11 AM and was adjourned following noisy protests from Opposition benches. It is set to reconvene at 2 PM.

Chairing the session in the Rajya Sabha, MP Ghanshyam Tiwari urged members to maintain decorum and allow the House to function. “Please let the ministers answer. Sloganeering is not the solution. The country is watching,” he said.
