Sonia Gandhi Calls Key Strategy Meet Ahead of Parliament Monsoon Session; Centre Schedules All-Party Talks on July 19

New Delhi: As the countdown begins for the Monsoon Session of Parliament, political activity is gaining momentum in Delhi. Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has called a crucial meeting of the party’s Parliamentary Strategic Group on July 15 to finalise the opposition’s strategy ahead of what is expected to be a politically charged session.

This will be the first Monsoon Session of Parliament following Operation Sindoor, India’s counter-terror operation in response to the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. The Parliament session is scheduled from July 21 to August 21, with no sittings on August 13 and 14 due to the Independence Day celebrations.

The Congress meeting is aimed at streamlining the party’s approach to key national issues, including internal security, unemployment, inflation, and the Centre’s foreign policy posture post-Operation Sindoor. Sources indicate that floor coordination with other INDIA bloc allies will also be on the agenda.

Meanwhile, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has announced that the Centre will convene an all-party meeting on July 19, just two days before the session begins. “The central government has called an all-party meeting on July 19 regarding the Monsoon Session of Parliament,” Rijiju stated earlier, underscoring the government’s effort to build consensus on legislative business.

The Monsoon Session comes after an active Budget Session earlier this year, which saw the passage of several important legislations. These included the Waqf Amendment Bill, multiple Appropriation Bills, and Demands for Grants for several key ministries. Notably, the Budget Session witnessed 26 sittings in total, with 17 sittings in its second half.

Key discussions during the previous session included budgetary allocations for the Ministries of Railways, Jal Shakti, and Agriculture in the Lok Sabha, while the Rajya Sabha focused on Education, Health, and Home Affairs.
