Patna: With the Bihar Assembly elections on the horizon, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday unveiled a bold and ambitious plan to provide government jobs and employment opportunities to one crore youth over the next five years. This announcement comes as a significant boost to the state’s employment mission and doubles the target set during the 2020–2025 period.
In a post on social media platform X, CM Nitish Kumar said, “I am delighted to share that, so far, 10 lakh youth in the state have been provided with government jobs, and approximately 39 lakh people have been given employment, and the target of providing government jobs/employment to over 50 lakh youth will certainly be achieved.”
He further elaborated that between 2005 and 2020, over 8 lakh youth were given government jobs, reinforcing his long-term vision to strengthen employment avenues in Bihar. The Chief Minister emphasized that to meet the new 1 crore job target, the state will ramp up employment generation, not only through government recruitment but also by promoting private sector jobs, particularly in industrial zones. A high-level committee will be set up to monitor and guide this employment mission.
CM Nitish Kumar also announced a major step towards skill development with the creation of a dedicated university. “In the coming time, a skill university will be established for skill development, which will be named Jananayak Karpoori Thakur Skill University in honour of Bihar’s pride, Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpuri Thakur ji,” he said. This university, a part of the expanded Saat Nischay (Seven Resolutions) program, aims to equip youth with technical and entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to pursue self-employment as well as private sector opportunities.
The new initiative appears to be a key electoral plank for the JD(U)-led government as Bihar heads into elections, likely to be held in October or November, though the Election Commission is yet to announce official dates.
