New Delhi: In a significant morale boost for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the party clinched victory in two key assembly by-elections held across five constituencies, signaling a growing voter shift and resilience after setbacks in Delhi. AAP secured wins in Visavadar (Gujarat) and Ludhiana West (Punjab), defeating rivals in their own strongholds.
Celebrating the party’s strong performance, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal addressed the media, saying, “This result shows that the people of Gujarat are tired of BJP’s misrule. Despite BJP’s control over the administration and election machinery, voters chose AAP — and by double margins.”
Kejriwal also laid to rest speculation regarding his possible entry into the Rajya Sabha following the Ludhiana West win by AAP MP Sanjeev Arora. “I am not going to the Rajya Sabha. Our Political Affairs Committee will decide who goes,” he clarified. Arora will have to resign from the Rajya Sabha, paving way for a new nomination from the party.
In Gujarat, Gopal Italia, who had earlier lost the Katargam seat in 2022, made a powerful comeback by winning Visavadar. “The people have given a clear message – BJP’s time is up,” said Italia, celebrating the victory alongside jubilant party workers.
Kejriwal further attacked both BJP and Congress, alleging that Congress is merely acting as BJP’s ally in Gujarat. “There’s no real fight left in Congress. I invite their honest workers to join AAP if they truly want to fight BJP,” he said.
While AAP made inroads in Gujarat and retained strength in Punjab, the Congress-led UDF wrested Nilambur from Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), and BJP held on to the Kadi seat in Gujarat. Meanwhile, TMC was poised to win Kaliganj in West Bengal.
