Atishi Slams BJP Over Kalkaji Demolition Drive, Calls It ‘Gareeb Virodhi’ Politics

New Delhi: A fresh political storm erupted in Delhi on Tuesday as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Chief Minister Atishi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) of targeting the poor through the ongoing demolition drive at Kalkaji’s Bhoomihin Camp.

Speaking out against the early morning eviction operation, Atishi said, “Three days ago, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said that not a single slum would be demolished. But today, since 5 AM, bulldozers have been operating, and people are being forced out of their homes, beaten with sticks.”

Atishi alleged that the justification of a court order by Chief Minister Gupta was misleading, claiming that it was, in fact, the BJP-backed DDA that had approached the court seeking clearance for the demolition. “Rekha Gupta claims this is a court order — but who approached the court? It was the BJP’s DDA and the party that brought the order,” she said.

According to Atishi, the affected residents had also appealed to the court for protection, but the BJP and the DDA opposed their plea and asserted they would not offer rehabilitation, thus paving the way for the demolitions. “These poor people went to court, but the BJP and the DDA stood against them, said they wouldn’t provide homes, and urged the court to approve the demolition,” she claimed.
