Indore Man Found Dead in Meghalaya Gorge: Wife’s Role in Murder Exposed

Shillong: In a major breakthrough within just seven days, Meghalaya Police have arrested four people—including the wife—in connection with the shocking murder of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi, who was killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. The case, which initially baffled investigators, has now taken a chilling turn as it was revealed that Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, allegedly plotted the murder by hiring contract killers.

Confirming the swift developments, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma lauded the state police in a post on X, writing, “Within 7 days a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #MeghalayaPolice in the Raja murder case. Three assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered and operation still on to catch one more assailant. Well done #MeghalayaPolice.”

The couple, who had recently married in Madhya Pradesh, arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon and were last seen on May 23. On June 2, Raja’s body was recovered from a gorge in Sohrarim near Cherrapunji, sending shockwaves across the country. Sonam had been untraceable for 17 days until she was finally found at a roadside eatery in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. She later surrendered at Nandganj police station.

“One person was picked up from UP, and two others were arrested from Indore by the Special Investigation Team (SIT),” Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang confirmed. “Operations are still underway in Madhya Pradesh to apprehend more individuals involved,” she added.

Tourist guide Albert Pde, who had seen the couple on May 23, said Raja and Sonam were accompanied by three men on their way from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat. “They were climbing more than 3,000 steps. The woman was trailing behind while the men walked ahead, conversing in Hindi,” he recounted.
