New Delhi: In a shocking terror attack that has rattled the serene hill station of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, one tourist lost their life and 12 others—comprising both tourists and locals—sustained injuries when terrorists opened fire in the Baisran area of Anantnag district on Tuesday afternoon.
The attack occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the lush meadows of Baisran, a scenic spot located approximately 3 to 4 kilometers from Pahalgam’s main market, accessible only by horse due to the absence of a motorable road. According to reports, 2–3 terrorists clad in army uniforms targeted a group of tourists on horseback, unleashing a volley of bullets in an ambush that has left the region in shock.
Disturbing visuals circulating on social media show several victims lying in pools of blood, as locals and authorities rushed to offer first aid and evacuate the injured. The identity of the deceased tourist is yet to be confirmed officially. However, authorities fear the death toll could rise as some of the injured remain in critical condition.
Reacting swiftly to the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently in Jeddah, contacted Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone and instructed him to ensure “all suitable measures” are taken in response to the situation. According to government sources, PM Modi has also directed the Home Minister to visit the attack site personally to assess the ground situation and boost the morale of security forces and civilians in the area.
