Kashmir: The security forces have launched a massive anti-terror operation in the Pahalgam area following a deadly terror attack in the Baisaran region this afternoon, which has claimed the lives of 27 people, including both tourists and locals. Several others have been critically injured.

In a post on X, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, as quoted by a news agency, said that an anti-terror operation has been launched to neutralise the terrorists behind the horrific attack.

“The entire nation is angry and the blood of our forces is boiling. I want to assure the nation that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack will have to pay a very heavy price for their heinous act. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families,” he said.

According to reports, the terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists who were on horseback in the picturesque Baisaran area—about 3–4 kilometers from the Pahalgam market—around 2:30 p.m. The area is only accessible by horse, and the sudden ambush left victims with little chance to escape. Initial visuals shared on social media show blood-soaked scenes and chaotic efforts to rescue the injured.

Following the attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah immediately left for Srinagar to hold an urgent meeting with top officials of all security agencies. He also spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in Saudi Arabia, and briefed him about the situation over the phone.- (KDC)
