Hyderabad: In a strategic move ahead of the April 23 MLC elections from the Hyderabad Local Authorities’ Constituency, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has announced its decision to not contest the poll, citing insufficient strength to secure a win. The declaration was made by BRS Working President KT Rama Rao on Saturday.

Explaining the party’s stance, KT Rama Rao made it clear that the decision to abstain was based on electoral arithmetic and not due to any political alignment. “We do not have the numbers to ensure victory in this seat. Hence, we are staying away,” he stated.

The decision, however, has triggered sharp political reactions. Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy accused the BRS and Congress of working behind the scenes to support the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) by opting out of the race. Dismissing the allegations, KT Rama Rao said the BRS could not align with either the BJP or the AIMIM, and therefore chose to remain neutral.

BJP MLA Raja Singh also lashed out at the BRS, alleging that the party’s move was a calculated attempt to pave the way for AIMIM’s candidate. He accused the BRS leadership of indirect collusion, adding fuel to the political fire ahead of the polls.
