Neemuch: In a resounding declaration of intent against Maoist insurgency, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Thursday that the country has taken a collective vow to eliminate Maoism from Indian soil by March 2026. The announcement was made during the 86th Raising Day Parade of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) held in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh — the historic birthplace of the force.

Addressing a sea of uniformed personnel, Shah praised the CRPF for its unmatched courage and said that their relentless operations had led to a 70% reduction in Naxal violence, with more than 400 forward-operating bases now actively manned in critical zones. He highlighted that Maoist influence had been squeezed into just four districts, marking a decisive shift in the internal security landscape.

The Home Minister lauded the CRPF’s longstanding legacy, tracing its origin to 1939 under British rule and its transformation into an elite force post-Independence under the vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who formally presented the force with its flag in 1950. Shah emphasized the CRPF’s unwavering role in preserving India’s unity and sovereignty, from the 1965 skirmish in the Rann of Kachchh to countering the Parliament attack, and protecting the Ram Janmabhoomi site.

In a major announcement, Shah revealed that a new Cobra battalion — the elite anti-Maoist force — would be raised specifically for Jammu and Kashmir, extending the CRPF’s specialized counterinsurgency capabilities to new frontiers.

Paying homage to the 2,264 CRPF personnel who have laid down their lives, Shah assured their families that the country holds them in the highest regard. “As India marches towards its centenary in 2047,” he said, “the bravery of CRPF soldiers will shine in golden letters.”

Shah also inspected the grand parade in an open jeep and laid a floral tribute at the CRPF memorial. Eight contingents of the force displayed their precision and discipline, as the Home Minister presented gallantry medals to several personnel.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav was also present at the event, which celebrated not just a force, but a legacy rooted in sacrifice, service, and supreme dedication.
