Shimla: Starting April 1, 2025, travelers heading to Himachal Pradesh will have to shell out more, as the state government has announced a toll fee hike across 55 toll barriers, including major routes to Shimla, Manali, and other tourist hotspots. The increased charges will apply to both private and commercial vehicles, with the additional revenue aimed at road maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.

Under the revised toll structure, private four-seater vehicles will now pay ₹70 for a 24-hour pass instead of ₹60, while heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will be charged ₹570, up from ₹550. Passenger vehicles with 6-12 seats will see their toll rise to ₹110, and those with more than 12 seats will pay ₹180 instead of ₹160. Cargo transport costs are also set to rise, with larger trucks now paying up to ₹720.

The Excise and Taxation Department has justified the increase, stating it is necessary to improve road conditions and ensure better travel infrastructure. However, the move is expected to impact tourists, daily commuters, and transport businesses, who may feel the pinch of the higher toll rates.
