Mumbai: RTI Activist Anil Galgali has suggested that the Mumbai Municipal Corporation dedicate specific spaces for banners in all 24 wards as part of its new advertising policy. He presented this and several other recommendations during a public hearing held at Jijamata Udyan, Byculla, regarding the formulation of the new policy.

During the hearing, Municipal Corporation Deputy Commissioner Chanda Jadhav presided over the discussions, where Galgali emphasized the need to free Mumbai’s footpaths from hoardings, including those put up by the Municipal Corporation, MMRDA, MSRDC, BPT, and Railways.

Key Recommendations by Anil Galgali:

  1. Dedicated spaces for banners should be created in each of the 24 ward offices to regulate advertisements.
    1. Safety audits of advertisement boards must be conducted every six months under the Maharashtra Fire and Safety Act, 2006 to ensure public safety.
    1. Permission for laser advertising and advertisements on under-construction buildings should be granted to boost government revenue.
  2. Revenue generation for the Municipal Corporation by allowing designated spaces for political, social, and religious advertisements, reducing unauthorized hoardings.

By implementing these suggestions, the Municipal Corporation can ensure better regulation of advertisements, enhance safety, and generate additional revenue while keeping the city’s streets and footpaths free from clutter.
