The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Ladakh finds itself embroiled in internal strife as its sitting MP, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, openly rebels against the party’s decision to deny him a ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Following the BJP’s announcement of Tashi Gyalson as the official candidate for the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat, Tsering Namgyal and his supporters organized a rally in a display of dissent.

Expressing his discontent, Tsering Namgyal stated to The Hindu, “My supporters have assembled spontaneously in Leh today. They are not happy with the nomination. With such a reaction, the big question remains if the party can retain the seat.”

Taking to social media, Tsering Namgyal criticized the party’s decision, stating, “BJP announced a new candidate for the Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency, replacing the sitting MP without providing transparent and compelling justification.”

Addressing his future course of action, he added, “I have communicated my disagreement to the party leadership through proper channels regarding this injustice to a dedicated Karyakarta. Hundreds of BJP activists and my supporters from across Ladakh have also voiced their disapproval with this decision. We will carefully evaluate the situation and determine our next course of action, keeping the well-being of the people of Ladakh at the forefront.”

The BJP’s selection of Tashi Gyalson, chairman-cum-chief executive councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council in Leh, as its candidate has sparked controversy within the party ranks.

Moreover, Tsering Namgyal’s interviews with India Today’s Rahul Kanwal resurfaced on social media, where his wife had defended former JNU student union leader Kanhaiya Kumar, indicating a potential factor contributing to his exclusion from the party’s candidate list.

As tensions escalate within the BJP in Ladakh, the party faces the challenge of managing internal dissent while striving to maintain its political stronghold in the region.
