The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker into custody in connection with the March Rameshwaram Cafe blast in Bengaluru, according to a report by Kannada news website Public TV. The BJP worker, identified as Saiprasad, was arrested from Thirthahalli in Karnataka’s Shimoga district.
This is the latest arrest made by the NIA, which took over the investigation into the cafe blast case on March 13. Last month, the agency had arrested Muzammil Shareef, who is alleged to be a key conspirator behind the blast.
Shareef’s arrest came after the NIA conducted multiple raids across locations in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. The main accused, Mussavir Shazeeb Hussain, who allegedly carried out the blast, and another conspirator, Abdul Matheen Taha, are still at large.
The blast occurred on March 1 at the Rameshwaram Cafe located on ITPL road in Bengaluru’s Brookefield neighborhood. Authorities have revealed that an improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the attack, which injured several customers and staff, and caused significant damage to the eatery.
The arrest of the BJP worker Saiprasad adds a new twist to the investigation. The NIA has not provided any additional details about Saiprasad’s alleged role or involvement in the blast at this time.
The Rameshwaram Cafe blast had sparked concerns over potential terror activities in Bengaluru. The NIA’s ongoing probe aims to uncover the complete conspiracy and motivations behind this attack.
