The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) has faced a significant setback in the Yavatmal-Washim Lok Sabha constituency as the candidature of Abhijit Rathore has been cancelled. Preliminary reports suggest that errors in the application led to the cancellation, dealing a blow to Prakash Ambedkar and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi just before the elections.
As the Lok Sabha elections approach in the second phase of Vidarbha, the last date for submitting nomination papers for the Yavatmal-Washim constituency was April 4. Today, on April 5, the nomination papers are undergoing scrutiny. During this process in Yavatmal’s nomination acceptance room, Abhijit Rathore’s candidature was cancelled due to errors in his application.
Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi had made a last-minute change to its candidate lineup on April 4, replacing Subhash Khemsingh Pawar with youth candidate Abhijit Rathore. Rathore filed his candidature on the final day of the application period. By the end of the nomination deadline, a total of 49 nomination papers from 38 candidates were filed with Election Decision Officer Dr. Pankaj Ashiya. Today, the applications of these candidates are under scrutiny.
Rajshree Patil has been nominated from Mahayuti and Sanjay Deshmukh from Mahavikas Aghadi. While Abhijit Rathore’s candidacy for Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi was expected to be significant, its cancellation has added a new twist to the election dynamics. The fate of the other 38 candidates’ applications remains to be seen.
Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi has announced its candidature in 25 Lok Sabha constituencies so far, with three candidates replaced. Shankar Chahande, previously nominated in Ramtek, withdrew his candidacy in support of independent rebel candidate Kishore Gajbhiye. In the Yavatmal-Washim constituency, Vanchit initially fielded Subhash Pawar but later opted for the young face of Abhijit Rathore.
