During her budget speech on Monday, Delhi Finance Minister Atishi introduced the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’, a pioneering scheme aimed at empowering women in the national capital. Under this scheme, women above the age of 18 will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 starting from the fiscal year 2024-25. However, certain categories, including government employees, income taxpayers, and pension recipients, will not be eligible for this assistance.
Atishi highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “The Kejriwal government will give a monthly amount of Rs 1,000 to every woman aged 18 or above. Under the Mukyamnatri Mahila Samman Yojana, women will be given this benefit.”
As she unveiled the Delhi government’s Rs 76,000 crore budget, Atishi noted a decrease of Rs 2,000 crores from the previous year’s allocation. Despite this reduction, the government has allocated a substantial amount of Rs 16,396 crore for education in FY25, constituting approximately 21% of the total budget outlay.
Informing about Delhi’s economic progress, Atishi revealed, “In 2014, the GSDP of Delhi was Rs 4.95 lakh crores and in the last ten years, the GDSP of Delhi has increased two and a half times to Rs 11.08 lakh crores.”
The launch of the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ underscores the Delhi government’s commitment to gender equality and social welfare. By providing financial support to women, especially those from marginalized backgrounds, the scheme aims to enhance their economic empowerment and overall well-being.
