Metro Line-12 is part of a strategic initiative to expand Mumbai’s metro network, complementing existing services and facilitating seamless connectivity within the region. Acting as an extension of Metro Line-5 from Kalyan, this line comprises 19 elevated stations over a distance of approximately 22.173 km. The estimated cost of the project is around ₹5,865 crores, with a projected completion by the end of 2027.

The introduction of Metro Line-12 is expected to bring numerous benefits to MMR residents, significantly improving connectivity between Kalyan and Taloja. Travelers commuting between Taloja and key areas such as South Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayender, and Virar will enjoy shorter and more convenient journeys. Notably, the completion of Metro Line-12 is anticipated to reduce travel time between Kalyan and Taloja by 45 minutes, enhancing accessibility and mobility for thousands of commuters. The expansion of connectivity facilitated by Metro Line-12 is expected to stimulate economic growth and development in surrounding areas, creating new opportunities for businesses and employment. Additionally, the metro line will contribute to reducing traffic congestion, road accidents, fuel consumption, and pollution, aligning with the MMRDA’s vision for a sustainable future.

Sanjay Mukherjee (IAS), Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, expressed pride in the progress of the metro project and reiterated MMRDA’s commitment to completing the proposed 337-km-long metro network. He highlighted the significance of Metro Line-12 in meeting the growing demand for connectivity between Kalyan and Taloja, emphasizing the benefits it will bring to passengers and the region’s overall transportation system.
