In the wake of a reported scuffle between Hindu and Muslim communities on Sunday night in Mumbai’s Mira Road, law enforcement swiftly moved to apprehend individuals involved in provoking the incident. The police arrested Abu Shaikh, identified as a key instigator seen in a viral social media video, with a total of 13 individuals detained so far. The ongoing process of identifying other suspects is being facilitated through CCTV footage analysis.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra addressed the incident on Monday via social media, expressing ‘zero tolerance’ for any attempts to disturb law and order in the state. He assured that the police have been instructed to take strict action against the accused involved in the Mira Road incident.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Local police, Mumbai Police, Palghar Police, Thane Rural Police, RAF (Rapid Action Force), MSF (Maharashtra Security Force), and SRPF, have been deployed in the area to ensure peace and maintain order.
DCP Jayant Bajbale reported, “Several videos of the clash between two communities in Mira Road adjacent to Mumbai went viral on social media. A video of a person named Abu Shaikh went viral where he was seen provoking people. The person who posted this video has been arrested, and Mira Bhayander police have sought two days of custody.”
Responding to the incident, Shrikant Pathak, Additional Commissioner of Police at Mira Bhayandar, appealed for peace, stating, “We are investigating the incident. Action will be taken against the accused only. I appeal to everybody to maintain peace. The Police have taken timely action. We are investigating the entire matter by looking at the CCTV footage. There are small miscreants who still try to create a nuisance.”
The clash on January 21 erupted during a rally by the Hindu community celebrating Ram Laal’s arrival in Ayodhya. Altercations between Muslim and Hindu communities ensued, with reported attacks on vehicles, breaking of windows, and verbal abuse captured in viral videos. Authorities are actively addressing the situation, conducting investigations, and taking measures to prevent any further escalation of communal tension in the area.
