Of late everybody is going gaga/potty over alleged Unknown Men appearing suddenly from nowhere and liquidating India’s most wanted terrorists either inside Pakistan or in any other country in the world.
The frequency with which these incidences are occurring raises quite a few eyebrows.
Pakistan has never admitted that it has harboured dreaded terrorists like Osama Bin Laden, Dawood Ibrahim, Maulana Masood Azhar or others.
They are damned if they do.
The threat of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) hangs over the head of Pakistan like the proverbial Sword of Damocles.
So in order to ease itself out of the grip of FATF list, the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan may be planting these news to get itself off the hook of the FATF and put the blame on India instead.
By raising suspicion over alleged involvement of Unknown Men allegedly from across the border, Pakistan and the US can pin India down.
The recent attempt by the US to link an Indian to the alleged plot to kill Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, or Canada trying to blame India over the Nijjar killing is yet another attempt to corner India.
Let us not forget no voice of protest was raised over the alleged killing of Baloch activist Karima Baloch in Canada in December 2020.
It is hard to digest that any country should have such a wild free run in a hostile neighborhood and do whatever it wants to. If things have really changed dramatically then it is a welcome sign. But no one would neither admit or deny such activities.
Both Dawood Ibrahim and Pak based terror outfit chief Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar have been living a very/highly protected life inside Pakistan.
Former Pakistani and ex-Mayor of Karachi Arif Aajakia too has raised doubts over the manner in which these killings are reported to be taking place and also their timings.
Just like there is the international atomic energy watchdog the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that keeps a watch on nuclear reactor’s and programs in countries around the world, it would be better if the Interpol is tasked to either confirm or deny any incident of such nature where known dreaded gangsters, mafia bosses or terrorists are killed in mysterious circumstances.
Conducting surgical strikes inside Pakistan is one thing, eliminating terrorists enclosed inside safe heavens is another matter.
A strong stable government is a prerequisite for a strong forceful diplomacy. Coalition governments which depend on outside support for their survival have their inherent pitfalls.
In December 1999 we had to dearly pay for it in Kandahar IC 814 hijacking by releasing Maulana Masood Azhar in exchange for the passenger’s. The May-July 1999 Kargil war was another example of the same soft diplomacy.
Today India has the guts to expose the real identity of Pannu before his own masters in the US. Or take a tough stance against Canada asking it to downsize its diplomatic staff in India.
Notwithstanding these designated terrorists dropping dead like nine pins, Minister for External Affairs, S Jaishankar has quite rightly remarked about Pakistan, “Won’t deal with nation where terrorism is deemed as legitimate.”
India needs to continue to step up its pressure on Pakistan and its supporters over the issue of terrorism. Besides continuing to expose Pakistan over its state sponsorship of terrorism, India should continue to demand dismantling of the terror infrastructure and proofs of its dismantling.
