In a significant address at the 40th convocation of Kashmir University, President of India, Droupadi Murmu, emphasized the pivotal role of youth in driving the nation towards peace, prosperity, and discipline. She stated that when young individuals follow the path of “Aman” (peace) and “Chayen” (prosperity) and uphold discipline, the nation will naturally progress.
Addressing the enthusiastic audience at the convocation hall, President Murmu began her speech with “Ye Che Mouj Kashmir” and received a resounding round of applause. She commended the beauty of the Kashmir University campus, highlighting its historical significance with the blessings of Hazratbal.
The President expressed her pride in awarding local student Kifayatullah at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi for his participation in the Republic Day parade in 2023 and his contributions to social services. She urged students at Kashmir University to engage in social services alongside their pursuit of higher education to drive positive change in society.
President Murmu distributed gold medals to 21 toppers out of 462 students, celebrating the fact that 55 percent of the toppers were girls, highlighting the remarkable achievements of women in various fields.
With an emphasis on environmental conservation, the President invoked the Kashmiri proverb, “Ann poshe teli yele wan poshe,” stressing the responsibility of protecting the natural gifts of Kashmir. She acknowledged the efforts of Kashmir University in preserving the Himalayan glaciers through ongoing research initiatives.
The President also congratulated Jammu and Kashmir for fully implementing the National Education Policy, setting an example for other states and union territories. She extended her best wishes to all the awardees for a promising future.
Prior to the convocation, President Murmu’s visit to Kashmir commenced with a warm welcome from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the airport, where she was honored with a guard of honor. She later paid tribute to slain soldiers at the army’s 15 Corps headquarters in Srinagar. During her stay in Srinagar, she interacted with local tribal groups and women’s Self Help Groups and attended a civic reception hosted in her honor at the Raj Bhavan.
On the following day, the President is scheduled to depart for Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, Jammu, to inaugurate a remodeled Parvati Bhavan and Sky Walk. Notable officials from the police and administration, including DGP Dilbagh Singh and others, were present during the Kashmir University Convocation.
