In a charged address to party workers in poll-bound Rajasthan, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made a controversial statement on Saturday, alleging that the former President of India, Ram Kovind, was not invited to lay the foundation stone of the new Parliament building because he is considered “untouchable.”

“Kovind was not invited to lay the foundation stone of the new Parliament building because he is an ‘achhot’,” Kharge asserted during his speech.

Kharge went on to launch a scathing attack on the BJP, expressing concerns for Dalits and cautioning them against the party’s policies. He stated, “The BJP is aligning with capitalists and privatizing various sectors. If this trend continues, what will happen to jobs and reservations? The era of Manu will return, and Dalits may once again face subjugation.”

During the same event, Kharge and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi attended the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the party’s new building in Jaipur. In their addresses to party workers, they emphasized important issues such as OBC reservation and the Women Reservation Bill, highlighting the party’s commitment to these key matters.
