Ongoing clashes between Pakistani soldiers and Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have resulted in casualties on both sides, according to an official statement from the country’s military.
The military announced that the clashes had led to the tragic loss of four government security personnel and the deaths of 12 terrorists belonging to the TTP. These confrontations unfolded amid reports that the TTP had captured several villages in the Chitral district.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, released a statement acknowledging the bravery of the soldiers involved in repelling the attacks and inflicting heavy casualties on the terrorists. It reported that during the exchange of gunfire, twelve terrorists lost their lives, while a significant number were critically injured.
The ISPR stated that in Chitral, a group of terrorists launched an attack on two Pakistani military posts situated near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The TTP had reportedly targeted the Janjareet Koh, Ustaoi, and Usool areas of the Bamboret Valley on Wednesday, capturing two security checkpoints.
Security forces are actively conducting operations in the area to eliminate any remaining terrorists and secure the region, according to the statement.
The TTP issued a statement claiming responsibility for the operation, describing it as “organized” and “successful.” They asserted that their presence in Chitral had been established for some time and was in response to the demands of the local populace.
The statement also conveyed the TTP’s condemnation of what it described as “false and baseless propaganda” by the Pakistani state. The TTP vowed to continue its “sacred Jihad” as long as it perceived Pakistan as an aggressor against their faith, wealth, lives, dignity, and the implementation of Shariah.
These clashes coincided with Pakistan’s Defense Day celebrations on Wednesday, sparking considerable reactions on social media and highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by the country.
