IPL 2022: Chennai Super Kings Vs. Kolkata Knight Riders are First to Kick Off the Season

@the_news_21

On March 26, reigning champions Chennai Super Kings will face last season’s runners-up and previous champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In total, 70 league games and four playoff games will be played over the course of 65 days in two cities: Mumbai and Pune. In Mumbai, the Wankhede, DY Patil, and Brabourne Stadiums will hold 55 league matches, while the MCA Stadium on the outskirts of Pune will host the remaining 15 games.

The BCCI had previously announced that there would be 70 league matches in the 10-team season, with the addition of two new teams, the Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. The bouts will be held at four Venus locations in Mumbai and Pune. The IPL 2022 final will take place on May 29. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m. IST at the Wankhede Stadium. The Mumbai Indians will play the Delhi Capitals in their first match on the second day. Punjab Kings will play Royal Challengers Bangalore in the evening match. The afternoon bouts begin at 3:30 p.m. IST, while the evening matches begin at 7:30 p.m. IST. Wankhede Stadium will host the final league stage match on May 22.

The league will host its first double-header on March 27, beginning with a Day game at Brabourne between the Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. The match between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore will take place at the DY Patil Stadium at night.

There will be 12 double-headers this season, with the first match beginning at 3:30 p.m. IST. At 7:30 p.m. IST, the evening matches will commence.

The IPL announced the new format last month, stating that the ten teams will play a total of 14 matches during the league phase, seven at home and seven away. Ten of the 14 games will be home-and-away matchups against the other four teams in the group, with two matches against the team from the other group. Each side will play 14 league stage matches, as stated by the BCCI.

Wankhede Stadium, the home of Mumbai Indians, and DY Patil Stadium will each host 20 matches. Both Brabourne Stadium and MCA Stadium in Pune will host 15 matches.

The Mumbai Indians, for example, will face the other four teams in Group A – the Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants – twice each as the Super Kings from Group B. They will play each of the remaining teams in the other group once (for a total of 14 games), with home and away games split evenly.

The format is similar to that used in 2011 when a total of ten teams competed for the first time.

The Maharashtra government has approved full-vaccinated spectators at 25% of stadium capacity for the upcoming season. According to the quarantine protocol distributed by the IPL to the franchises, a three-day hard quarantine in a hotel room followed by a negative test on the fourth day will be required before teams enter the IPL bubble.
