New Delhi: In a significant development, China has issued over 85,000 visas to Indian citizens in just four months, marking a key milestone in the growing people-to-people connections between India and China. This surge in visa issuances comes following the disengagement of troops from eastern Ladakh, signaling a new chapter in bilateral relations between the two nations.

Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong shared the update in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “As of April 9, 2025, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in India have issued more than 85,000 visas to Indian citizens travelling to China this year. Welcome more Indian friends to visit China, experience an open, safe, vibrant, sincere and friendly China.”

Key Factors Behind the Surge in Visa Issuances

The rise in Indian nationals securing Chinese visas is attributed to a series of recent policy relaxations by China aimed at facilitating easier travel between the two countries. Some of the key changes include:

  • Removal of Online Appointment Requirement: Applicants can now directly visit Chinese visa centers on working days without the need for prior online appointments.
  • Exemption from Biometric Data: Short-term travellers are no longer required to provide biometric data, cutting down the time and effort needed to apply for a visa.
  • Lower Visa Fees: The cost of applying for a visa has been reduced, making the process more affordable for a larger number of people.
  • Streamlined Processing: The overall timeline for visa processing has been sped up, benefiting both business and leisure travellers.

These efforts are part of China’s broader strategy to attract more Indian tourists, with a focus on showcasing its cultural heritage, seasonal attractions, and scenic landscapes.
