Chief Minister says welfare schemes improved dignity of women and housing support for crores of poor families
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the opposition during the Uttar Pradesh Assembly session, accusing rival parties of mocking welfare schemes that have improved the dignity and living standards of millions across the state.
Speaking in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said that after the double-engine government came to power in 2017, the state completed the construction of more than 2 crore toilets within one and a half years, calling it a major step toward ensuring dignity and sanitation for women.
CM says opposition mocked sanitation drive
Yogi Adityanath said the opposition had ridiculed the government’s sanitation mission at the time, saying, “You people laughed then, saying, ‘What will toilets do?’” He said such remarks reflected a lack of concern for women’s dignity and welfare.
Reservation issue raised in Assembly
The Chief Minister also questioned the opposition’s stand on women’s reservation, saying parties that are now demanding 33 per cent reservation had earlier opposed it in the House.
According to him, the opposition’s shifting position exposed political inconsistency and weakened its claims of supporting women’s empowerment.
Housing benefits highlighted
Alongside sanitation, Yogi Adityanath highlighted the impact of housing schemes, saying nearly 4 crore poor people across India had benefited from the Garib Awas initiative.
He said the programme had helped improve living conditions for economically weaker sections by providing housing support and strengthening social welfare delivery.
Political confrontation intensifies
The remarks came during a heated Assembly debate, where the Chief Minister defended the government’s welfare achievements while criticising opposition parties for questioning initiatives aimed at sanitation, housing and women’s welfare.
