Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp political attack on West Bengal’s ruling leadership, accusing it of undermining Bengal’s cultural identity and allowing lawlessness to thrive.
Yogi Adityanath Launches Fiery Attack on Bengal Government
In a highly charged political address, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stirred major controversy after making strong remarks on Bengal’s identity, law and order, and religious issues, directly targeting the government led by Mamata Banerjee.
Referring to statements allegedly made by Firhad Hakim, Yogi said Bengal’s heritage was deeply rooted in Hindu traditions and could not be altered.
“No one can play with Bengali identity. Bengal’s identity is not associated with the Kaaba, Bengal’s identity has been associated with Maa Kalibari,” Yogi said, in remarks that have now triggered intense political debate.
“Cow Slaughter Is Rampant”: Yogi Targets Bengal on Religious Issues
Continuing his offensive, Yogi Adityanath accused the Bengal government of failing to protect Hindu sentiments.
He alleged that cow slaughter was widespread in the state and claimed that the administration was hostile toward Hindu festivals and symbols.
“Mamata Didi is irritated by the name of Lord Ram. Permission is not given during Durga Puja,” Yogi said, accusing the ruling government of suppressing religious freedom.
The comments are likely to intensify the already heated political battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party and All India Trinamool Congress ahead of upcoming elections.
Yogi Compares Bengal to Pre-2017 Uttar Pradesh
Drawing a direct comparison between West Bengal and pre-2017 Uttar Pradesh, Yogi claimed Bengal was facing the same kind of disorder and lawlessness that existed in UP before the BJP came to power.
“The lawlessness that we are witnessing here is similar to the lawlessness that existed in Uttar Pradesh before 2017,” he said.
According to Yogi, the situation in Uttar Pradesh changed dramatically after the BJP formed the government.
“Today, there is no unrest in UP. There is celebration everywhere,” he claimed.
“UP Is Living in Ram Rajya,” Says Yogi
Highlighting what he described as the achievements of his administration, Yogi Adityanath said the people of Uttar Pradesh were now living in a new era of “Ram Rajya.”
“Today, the people of UP are living in a new era of Ram Rajya,” he said, presenting the BJP’s governance model as one rooted in order, tradition and cultural pride.
He added that there was unity among Hindus in the state and that his government would not tolerate cow slaughter or communal division.
“There is only one voice in UP — we will not allow the cow to be slaughtered, nor will we allow Hindus to be divided,” he declared.
BJP Pushes “Double-Engine Government” Narrative
In the final part of his speech, Yogi Adityanath argued that only a “double-engine BJP government” could protect India’s heritage and ensure law and order.
“This is a sense of respect for India’s heritage, and this only happens when there is a double-engine BJP government,” he said.
The “double-engine” slogan has become central to the BJP’s campaign messaging, suggesting that states governed by the BJP benefit more when the same party is in power at the Centre.
Political Reactions Expected After Yogi’s Remarks
Yogi’s comments are expected to trigger strong reactions from the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, which has frequently accused BJP leaders of trying to polarise voters through religious rhetoric.
With West Bengal remaining one of the BJP’s key electoral battlegrounds, the remarks are likely to sharpen political divisions and fuel debate over religion, identity, and governance in the run-up to elections.
