Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday took a swipe at the Uttar Pradesh government over its lavish spending on Ram Navami celebrations, urging a more practical and creative approach to festive lighting.
Addressing a public gathering, Yadav drew parallels with global Christmas festivities, suggesting that India should adopt sustainable and long-lasting lighting solutions instead of wasting money on temporary lamps and candles.
“I don’t want to give a suggestion. But I will give one suggestion on the name of Lord Ram. In the entire world, all the cities get illuminated during Christmas. And that goes on for months. We should learn from them. Why do we have to spend money on lamps and candles and put so much thought into it? What can we expect from this government; it should be removed. We will make sure that there are more beautiful lights…” Yadav said.
Yadav’s comments come amid widespread preparations for Ram Navami celebrations across the state, where large-scale lighting and decorations have been arranged under government-funded initiatives. The SP leader accused the administration of misusing public funds for optics rather than focusing on essential development work.
