When Will the New Mayor Be Elected?

The final call on the exact date will be taken by the Municipal Secretary of the BMC after completing formal approvals.
For the remaining 28 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, the elections will be held on the same day. However, the power to fix the date and time lies with the respective Divisional Commissioners, ensuring that all civic bodies follow a uniform and legally approved process.
How Is the Mayor Elected?
The election begins with the nomination process. Aspiring candidates for Mayor and Deputy Mayor must submit their nomination papers to the Municipal Secretary within the announced window. Once nominations are filed, they are scrutinised to ensure compliance with rules and eligibility criteria.
The actual election takes place during the first general meeting of the newly elected corporators. During this meeting, corporators cast their votes, and the candidates securing the majority are elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor. This meeting also marks the formal start of the new civic administration.
Before the elections, the Municipal Secretary sends a proposal to the Divisional Commissioner seeking approval to convene the meeting. The Divisional Commissioner then confirms the schedule and appoints a presiding officer to oversee the proceedings, ensuring transparency and order.
