Alleging serious breaches in electoral rolls, Clyde Crasto questioned how voter ID accounts were accessed and warned that democracy is at stake unless the ECI and Centre order an independent inquiry.
New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party–Sharad Pawar (NCP-SP) national spokesperson and secretary Clyde Crasto has raised serious concerns over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations that names are being illegally deleted from electoral rolls.
In a sharp statement, Crasto questioned how outsiders could gain access to individual voter ID accounts and whether the Election Commission of India (ECI) portal had been compromised. “How are these name-deleters getting access to an individual’s voter ID account? How can the ECI’s portal be hacked so easily? Or is someone within the ECI complicit?” he asked.
Crasto warned that these allegations, if true, strike at the very core of India’s democratic process. “The allegations are getting serious by the day, yet the ECI does not seem to have valid answers. The credibility of free and fair elections depends on the sanctity of the voter list. If citizens cannot trust that their names will remain intact, then democracy itself is at risk,” he said.
Calling for immediate action, the NCP-SP leader demanded that the ECI and the central government set up an independent inquiry into the matter and present the truth before the people of India. “They must hold an inquiry and place the facts before citizens. Anything less will be seen as a cover-up,” he cautioned.
