UP Floods Claim Lives, No Government Help on Ground: Akhilesh Yadav Slams State Response

New Delhi: As floodwaters continue to wreak havoc across various districts of Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party leader and MP Akhilesh Yadav has lashed out at the state government, accusing it of negligence and administrative failure in dealing with the crisis. Speaking to reporters, Yadav said, “People are losing their lives due to floods at many places in UP. The state government is not providing any help. I don’t know how the government is functioning there.”

Heavy rainfall in the past several days has led to widespread waterlogging and rising river levels in districts such as Gorakhpur, Gonda, Sitapur, Barabanki, and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Dozens of villages are reportedly marooned, and several families have been displaced. Despite this, Yadav alleged that relief measures remain grossly inadequate, with many flood-affected residents left without access to clean drinking water, shelter, or medical assistance.

Criticizing the ruling BJP government in the state, Yadav claimed that the administration is more focused on headlines than helping people on the ground. He demanded immediate deployment of disaster response forces, increased compensation for affected families, and a comprehensive plan to strengthen embankments and flood protection infrastructure.
