Ports Minister says proposed projects will strengthen maritime infrastructure, fishing harbours, coastal connectivity and employment generation
Maharashtra Ports Minister Nitesh Rane has sought priority approval from the Centre for projects submitted under Sagarmala 2.0, saying they will strengthen ports, fishing harbours, coastal connectivity and employment generation.
Sindhudurg: Maharashtra Minister for Fisheries and Ports Nitesh Rane has urged the Central Government to grant priority approval to projects submitted by the state under the Sagarmala 2.0 programme.
Rane raised the matter during a meeting with Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi. He also submitted a formal letter requesting the Centre to expedite clearance of Maharashtra’s proposals.
In the letter, Rane said the Maharashtra Government had accorded high priority to projects proposed under Sagarmala 2.0, as they were expected to accelerate port-led and coastal development across the state.
According to the minister, the projects aim to strengthen multimodal logistics connectivity, modernise fishing harbours, upgrade coastal infrastructure and promote coastal shipping, inland waterways and maritime tourism.
Rane said the proposed initiatives could generate employment in coastal districts, attract private investment and provide fresh momentum to Maharashtra’s economic growth.
He noted that the Maharashtra Maritime Board had submitted detailed project proposals in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Central Government under the Sagarmala 2.0 programme.
The minister requested that the proposals be considered on priority, stating that they were aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Rane expressed confidence that early approval from the Centre would strengthen Maharashtra’s port development, maritime infrastructure, coastal economy and fisheries sector.
He said the state government remained committed to developing Maharashtra as one of India’s leading maritime states through sustained investment in ports, fisheries and coastal connectivity.
