Moscow: Russia’s Defence Ministry has launched a dedicated website to release declassified content from its Central Archives, showcasing the heroic feats of Soviet soldiers during the Great Patriotic War and World War II. This initiative aims to preserve historical truth, counter distortions, and honour the valour of Soviet heroes who fought against Nazi forces.

The archive includes award lists, registration cards, photographs, and personal files of soldiers from various Soviet republics, including Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Estonia.

Stories of Bravery

Guards Major Boris Yemelyanov – A fearless commander, he led his battalion through numerous attacks and assaults, particularly excelling in the Vistula-Oder Offensive. In January 1945, his battalion was honoured with prestigious military orders, including the Order of Glory, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, and the Order of the Red Banner.

Vladimir Narzhimsky – A skilled fighter pilot with the 32nd Fighter Aviation Regiment, he defended the Caucasus and Crimea, later aiding in the liberation of Romania, Bulgaria, and Austria. Over his service, he completed 339 combat missions, 18 air raids, 10 reconnaissance missions, and downed 18 enemy aircraft in 35 aerial battles.

Samed Abdulayev – A combat medic in the 318th Novorossiyskaya Rifle Division, he was awarded the For Courage medal in 1943 for eliminating 19 Nazi soldiers while rescuing the wounded. Despite being injured, he returned to the battlefield after treatment, demonstrating exceptional bravery.

Konstantin Tsutskiridze – Serving as Deputy Commander for political awareness in the 823rd Artillery Regiment, he played a crucial role in breaking through German defence lines near the Oder River in 1945. Leading his artillery crew in battle, he destroyed three enemy tanks when their officer was wounded.

By making these once-classified records public, Russia seeks to honour the sacrifices of its wartime heroes while safeguarding the integrity of history.
