New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has directed schools across India to ensure timely Aadhaar biometric updates for children in the 5–15 years age group. The process, known as Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU), is crucial for maintaining accurate Aadhaar records for school-going children.

UIDAI CEO has written to Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories, requesting them to organise Aadhaar update camps in schools to clear the backlog. The updates include biometric authentication such as iris, fingerprint and facial records, which are mandatory when a child turns 5 and again at 15.

To speed up the exercise, UIDAI has partnered with the Ministry of Education to integrate the Aadhaar update facility on the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) platform, covering nearly 17 crore children across the country.

Timely completion of the Aadhaar MBU will help ensure that students continue to receive government scholarships, subsidies, and education-related benefits linked to Aadhaar without disruption.
