Ahmedabad: Panic gripped over 150 passengers on an IndiGo flight from Surat to Dubai on Tuesday morning when a sudden engine malfunction forced an emergency diversion to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. Thanks to the quick decision-making and professionalism of the pilot, a potential disaster was narrowly avoided.

The aircraft, IndiGo flight 6E-1507, had taken off from Surat International Airport but developed a technical issue while cruising. Airline officials confirmed that one of the engines experienced a performance problem, activating emergency protocols mid-flight.

An IndiGo spokesperson stated, “The safety of our passengers is always our top priority. The pilot followed all standard operating procedures and landed the aircraft safely in Ahmedabad.”

Passengers onboard described a tense atmosphere as news of the technical glitch spread. “Everyone was tense. The crew kept telling us not to panic, but you could see the fear on people’s faces. It was only after the plane touched down safely in Ahmedabad that we finally breathed a sigh of relief,” said Rakesh Patel, a business traveler heading to Dubai. Some passengers were seen praying, while others immediately contacted family members upon learning about the emergency landing.

Eyewitnesses reported that the landing was smooth despite the emergency, and all passengers disembarked safely. Airport authorities confirmed no injuries or casualties were reported.

Following the incident, IndiGo’s engineering team began a detailed inspection of the aircraft to identify the cause of the engine fault. Meanwhile, the airline arranged an alternate aircraft to ensure passengers could continue their journey to Dubai without further delay. By late afternoon, all passengers were transferred and resumed travel safely.

IndiGo issued an official statement: “We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers but are grateful that the situation was handled safely and professionally.” The incident underscores the importance of pilot training, rapid response, and adherence to safety protocols in ensuring passenger security during in-flight emergencies.
